warning from berkeley police. the latest armed robbery that has students on alert. it's all head on mornings on two. >> compete bay yarr news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> and good morning. it's saturday, november 2nd. >> good morning. the weekend is here and so too is rosemary. let's get a quick look at forecast. >> good morning. we are going to be transitioning to a cooler, breezier pattern for your weekend. this morning waking up with patchy fog. it's really thick along parts of the coastline. it's a chilly temperature slipping back in to the 40s for most of us. by the afternoon a drop coming for the afternoon highs. we will be a lot cooler and winds will start to increase. we have a wind advisory late tonight into early tomorrow morning for some areas. i will show you which areas and what you can expect outside your door coming up. >> happening now, terminal 3

at lax remains closed at this hour. this morning the suspect, a 23- year-old is in the hospital in critical condition. reportedly shot four times including in the mouth and leg. investigators say that he walked into the terminal yesterday morning, took a rifle out of a bag and opened fire. one tsa security officer was killed, three others wounded and two people were hurt as they ran from the scene. >> a cop from outside started yelling, -- hit the floor and there were kids crying and people freaking out. >> reporter: the tsa officer killed has been identitied as 39-year-old g era ldo hear nan dez. he has been with the agency since 2010 and is the first tsa officer killed in the line of duty. investigators say they found a

note on the suspect which he reportedly said he expected to die in a shoot out. he was upset at the former homeland secretary. he also accused the tsa of violating his rights. fall out is still being felt at air ports nationwide. we are live at sfo this morning with the flights canceled. >> reporter: i just spoke to the airport duty manager here at san francisco international. he said things are starting to get back to normal though there are still canceled flights to deal with. he said three flight that were supposed to arrive from lax have been canceled. one that was scheduled to depart at 6:30 has also been scrapped. an oakland airport the duty manager said that delta has canceled it's first two flights from oakland to lax and we are waiting to hear at other

impacts. virgin america is one of six airlines that departs from terminal 3 in la. that's the terminal where yesterday's shooting happened. they have been affected and some of the pipings here are trying to find other ways to get to their destinations. because the scotch the investigation into this -- scope of the investigation other flights are also impacted. two were canceled last night. several oakland southwest flights canceled and in san jose, officials canceled nine flights, nearly a third of their la bound flights. passengers here and at san jose rushed to find another way to travel. >> my only oposition is to try to book a flight tomorrow basically. there is one option which was to fly to san diego and try to take a train but trying to avoid that. >> reporter: some passengers took charter buses from bay area airports to the los angeles area like this group of

high school students thailand. they were scheduled to preform in southern california. they did make it there by bus but eight hours after they were supposed too. there are six airlines that depart from terminal 3 of lax. virgin america, virgin australia, frontier also impacted. if you are flying on them be sure to check to make sure it's still on time. things are getting back to normal but there is impact from that shooting investigation in la yesterday. live at sfo. >> the president said he is closely monitoring all the events around the shooting. during a meeting with the prime minister of iraq he asked about the shooting or was asked about it and he said he called both the tsa and los angeles mayor to offer his sympathies as well as any support that they may need. tsa does report a growing number of passengers are trying

sign off on the deal which will raise salaries 15 and a percent. berkeley police are vepghting another robbery on campus. the latest happened around 11:00 thursday night in a big grassy area known as the faculty glaid. the 18-year-old was walking when the suspect grabbed her. he showed a gun and took her cell phone. another man then grabbed her purse. police are now warning students to be on alert. officers say last month five others were robbed on campus. police are telling students to walk with friends and call police if you need help. the oakland police department is vepghting a shooting investigating a shooting that left a person in critical condition. so far no description of the gunman. >> a 3-year-old is in the hospital after falling out of a second story window. it happened last night around

5:30 on summer tree drive. it appears the child pushed the screen from the window and then fell onto a backyard walkway. the child was flown with his mother by helicopter to oakland children's hospital. at this point police will only say the child may have serious injuries. a boy who suffered serious injuries after being hit by a truck while trying or treat -- trick or treating will have surgery. he was crossing the street on halloween night when he and his cousin were hit by a small truck. the 13-year-old cousin is recovering at home from a broken shoulder but he is sedated at the hospital. the accident fractured both of his legs. >> you see a child with tubes coming out of his mouth where you have him just eyes closed, it's unbearable. the driver said he didn't see the boys. the crosswalk has been the

scene of several crashes including one that killed a woman. this latest accident has residents renewing pressure to improve liepghting at that location. >> happening today you may see police and fire trucks near the train tracks in redwood because of a drill. it's happening on an unused portion of track at middle field and wood side roads. caltrains and law enforcement agencies will practice how to respond to a rail mernly. the drill starts at 7:30 and will end at five tonight. traffic and train service should not be disrupted. later today thousands of people are expected to attend a day of the dead celebration in san francisco's mission district. it's a mexican holiday that celebrates lives of those who have died. the celebration in san francisco has grown over the years attracting crowd from all over the bay area. since it falls on a saturday they say the crowd could be one of the biggest yet. >> people upset about a plan to limit off leash areas for

dogs in the golden gate area will hold a march and rally this morning. they plan to walk from the field to fort mason at 11. they say they are upset about a proposal that would restrict areas where dogs can run free. similar protests are scheduled for next week and a public meeting will follow the march at the fort mason center. >> today is one of those days where it may be just perfect to get outside though rosemary you are saying could be a little chilly as we move through the weekend. >> yes. chilly weather and the winds will be a factor. right now we are calm. we are mostly clear. where i amtraking fog along the coastline. now we are on the break of dawn. we have sunrise coming officially in about half hour or so and as we point to the east you can see we have mostly clear skies. we will have clouds roll across the area and they are associated with the wind and that wind associated with the storm.

new this morning confirmation that the united states has killed one of the most feared terrorists in the world. a spokesman for the pakistan taliban said an american drone strike killed their leader. the united states had put a five million dollar bounty on his head. he was accused of helping bomb a base in afghanistan in 2009 that killed seven including five cia officers. the united states said he was also part of a failed car bombing at new york times square in 2010. the pakistan taliban plans to elect a new leader today. >> this morning the president is urging republicans and democrats to put aside their differences and pass a budget with new domestic spending. >> if we don't pick the right priorities now, make the right choices now we could hurt growth and opportunity for decades and leave our children with something less. >> the president said that he is happy to hear that republican leaders won't seek another government shut down or threaten default but he is

warning the gop against pursuing budget cuts. the president said he supports closing wasteful tax loopholes and wants to protect education and road projects. some visitor facilities remain closed after last month's shut down. this includes many of the rest rooms and camp dprownds found at the parks, litter removal and other maintenance has also been cut back. a spokesman for the army corp. of engineers said the resolution that ended the shut town didn't release all of the funds they need. he said it won't be fixed until congress passes a new budget. >> the obama administration said the health care website should be working smoothly by the end of the month. experts said they were able to make progress despite computer crashes. on thursday a house committee released documents showing only six people were able to enroll on october 1st but three million tried to access it. the white house said those numbers are unofficial and said

it'll release a accurate count in a couple of weeks. a health care plan in alameda has been removed. it was one of 12 options available on the exchange. it was removed because it failed to get a necessary state license by the october 31st deadline. the state has told people who signed up with it that they must now pick another company. they could get back in to the exchange but it's not clear when. later today there will be a covered california workshop and health fair in san jose. people will be able to get help with enrolling and also get blood pressure, dental and vision check ups. that event runs from ten to two at cherry wood elementary on green gate drive. some researchers in southern california say they found something that will make a blueprint for a hiv vaccine. they have been working on that for 13 years. they say they have used the latest technology to identity

weaknesses in the virus. those are shown there in green, yellow and orange. the blue shows the part that's blocking the infection. >> fantastic program. everybody is very excited. we got a really close look at one of hiv's most important protein for vaccines. >> researchers say they have a better understanding of how the protein acts and how it affects the cell. >> honda is recalling more than 300,000 vans. it's all because a problem with the vehicle's braking system that can cause the car to brake suddenly without brake liepghts coming on. honda said the part needed to repair the problem won't be available until early next year. they issued instructions online on how to prevent the sudden braking from happening. christmas is just about eight week away and many stores are already getting into that holiday spirit. some valley mall in concord has put up this giant display and

. it's scary. to think that it happened. an hour earlier we could have been there. >> emotional scene at lax as the investigation into the deadly shooting of a tsa continues. good morning. welcome to mornings on two. >> happening right now, from new jersey to los angeles the search for a motive behind the lax shooting. the suspected gunman, a 23-year- old had sent a text to his family, to new jersey early yesterday telling them he was thinking about taking his life. dan simon live at lax with the latest on the story.

>> reporter: hey. don't have much of a motive at this point. we know this is someone who seemed to have anti government views. he had some information on him that quoted the new world order. also someone that seemed to have quite a hatred toward tsa employees and seemed to be directing his anger toward those tsa agents and that's why he took that rifle out and fired all those shots. >> riepght now do you know if there is any time frame as to when the terminal will reopen? >> reporter: you know we have been asking that question all morning. as you can imagine a lot of passengers left their belongings behind just dropped them and hit the exit. so people are eager to get their stuff. a lot of passengers have been coming up asking when that terminal will reopen. at this point it's closed. the ticket counter is open so people can go in and buy

tickets and ask questions of employees but all of the airline traffic is being sent to other terminals. at this point it's still an active investigation. >> live for us there at lax. thank you for that update. bay area airports are still dealing the fall out. several flights have been canceled including virgin america canceling a 6:45 a.m. flight from sfo to los angeles and two more flights san jose to lax. last night a group of high school musicians boarded a bus to lax after their flight from jfk was diverted to san jose. they had just preformed in new york and why supposed to land -- were supposed to land if terminal three. >> we didn't think -- it was good opportunity of us that we fly to san jose. >> i actually was supposed to catch on earlier flight and i fell asleep at the gate. i was actually going to be at

that terminal probably around that same time. >> nine flights were canceled and that's about a third of it's daily flights to lax. the orchestra eventually arrived just about eight hours after it was supposed to land. at eight we will go to sfo with the update on the flight delays. >> with very -- we have 911 calls from a nursing home where the residents were abandoned. >> is she awake? >> yeah. >> okay. is she breathing? >> yes. she is breathing. >> vepghtors say more than a dozen patients were left in that nursing home when the state revoked its license on october 24th. a cook and janitor were the only staff who stayed to help. they called the police a couple of times including once to report on the condition of several patients. eight people are recovering from smoke inhalation after a vehicle fire inside the tunnel. we want to show you the video

in the number one bore. you can see people carrying out their belongings. very smoky event to try to escape that fire. many young children had to be carried to safety by paramedics. >> the biggest danger was the smoke inhalation from the fumes of the car. luckyly the tunnel has a complex ventilation system. >> the caltrans spokesman said the tunnel safety system seems to have worked well with no major issues. they are working on safety upgrades for the three existing bores. yesterday's fire in the tunnel may have brought back memories of the deadly tanker fire in 1982. seven were killed in that fire. as a result many safety features were put into place including that ventilation system. cameras and external warning signs. lessons learned then also contributed to the 4th bore which will open in two weeks.

>> the investigation in to the beating of a man is being put on hold on september 20th david lamont went outside his home to ask a group of teenagers to quiet down. police say when he did not come back his wife went outside and found him unconscious in the street. officers say he out of a coma but still can't talk. they are waiting to see what he remembers before continuing the investigation. they have interviewed four teenagers who were at the scene but no arrests have been made. oakland police are searching for a teen they say robbed an 11-year-old boy at gun point. it happened at about 7:30 yesterday morning on 19th avenue . the boy was walking to school when the armed teenager confronted him. the teen demanded the boy's phone but took his five dollars. >> knuckle head factor of that disheartening. so it's -- it's uphill battle every day.

>> police say the robber is a african american with blue braces on his teepght. he is about 15, 5'8'' with a skinny build. thrivment are new developments in the case of a teen shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy. the parents of the 13-year-old andy lopez say they plan to file a federal civil rights lawsuit on monday. they claim a deputy shot and killed lopez with no cause. the boy was shot while giving a bb gun that looked like a rifle. the family has also filed three wrongful death claims. san francisco police are looking for a man who was visiting the area from los angeles. they say he was last heard from on monday when he called his family to say he was being followed in the mission district. police say that he made that phone call around 11:00 p.m. he is 22, 6 feet, 180 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

he had a dark backpack and i- phone 5. >> on tuesday voters in san francisco will decide on a controversial plan for a coppedo project along the waterfront. if if passes two condo buildings will be built at wash. supports say it would create a new waterfront park and hundreds of jobs, opponents say it would block views and create luxury housing few people can afford. then the governor talked to us about his involvement and support. >> it's a development and it'll generate $350 million over 60 plus years to the city. it'll create $11 million of affordable housing that none of the opponents can identity. >> we have this beautiful access to the waterfront, views of the bay bridge, views of the tower, of the ferry building, a nice park and we need to keep it that way. >> today the yes and no on proposition b campaigns plan to

that's bringing rain over crescent city. we have a front that's going to sweep across the bay area and that's going to increase the winds. so a few clouds going to be rolling our way for the afternoon and behind it, the winds will be picking up and our temperatures will be falling, we won't get any rain out of that system, we will only get the wind. we have a wind advisory. take a look at timing. it's late tonight into tomorrow morning. the wind gusts to 45 miles an hour with the dry conditions and the breezy dry winds, we do have elevated fire danger with this but no advisory from the national weather service. notice the highlighted purple shades for the hills. this will be 11:00 tonight into tomorrow morning. wind gusts to 45 but i think breezy throughout. let me show you what happens. the winds light at this hour but now the timestamp reads about noontime. winds from five to ten to 15 miamis an hour. we get into the second half of

and leg. investigators say he walked in to the terminal yesterday, took out a rifle, out of a bag and opened fire. one tsa officer was killed. three others wounded. two other people were hurt as they ran from that scene. >> a cop from outside started yelling hit the floor, and so everybody hit the floor and there were tons of kids crying and people freaking out. >> the tsa officer killed has been identitied as a 39-year- old g era ldo hernandez. he is the first tsa officer to be killed in the line of duty. the head of that agency plans to pleat with his family later today. investigators found a note on the suspect where he reportedly said he expected to die in a shoot out. he was also upset at the former homeland secretary. his note also accuses the tsa of violating his rights the effect of that shooting is

still being felt nationwide. we are live at sfo with the check on the local impact. >> reporter: there are canceled flights and delays to deal with here and at other airports. some airlines are more impacted than others. we are standing in front of the virgin america ticket counter here. virgin america operates in and out of terminal three in los angeles at lax. that is where the shooting happened. we talked to several passengers here this morning, checking in whose flights were delayed or canceled. there was a 6:30 a.m. flight that was scrapped. the 11 and 8:00 a.m. flights have been delayed by a couple of hours. for many hours los angeles isn't their final destination. they had connecting flights. the delays and canceled flights have made it hard for them to

the oakland police department is investigating a shooting take left a person in -- that left a person in critical condition. police have not released information about what led up to that shooting and so far no description of the gunman. >> a 3-year-old is in the hospital this morning after falling out of a second story window. it happened last night around 5:30 on summer tree drive. it appears that the child pushed the screen from the window and then fell. the child was flown with his mother by helicopter to oak the oakland hospital-- the oakland hospital. a boy will have surgery after being hit by a truck while trick or treating. he was crossing the street on halloween night when he and his cousin were hit by a small truck. the 13-year-old cousin is recovering at home with a broken shoulder. the little boy remains sedated.
